Workstart West Cork (trading as EmployAbility Service West Cork) was set up in 2001. Since 2007 the company has registered Charitable status with the revenue commissioners and is a registered charity. The Company is managed by a Voluntary Board of Directors. The Board of Directors of the Company is made up of members of the wider community from throughout West Cork and are Martin Carey(Chair), Patrick Murphy, Gordon Teasdale, Dominic Cronin, Jill St. James-Hodnett, Gearoid O’Driscoll, Maria O’Donovan.
EmployAbility Service West Cork is one of 23 Supported Employment organisations in operation throughout the country. We provide an employment service, providing local employers with quality staff while also supporting people into employment who are recovering from an illness, injury or any other type of disability. We are proven experts in providing employment supports to a diverse range of people with a wide range of backgrounds from entry level to management, part time or full time, permanent or relief staff, from early school leavers, leaving certificate to PhDs who wish to gain meaningful employment.
The Company is funded by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. EmployAbility Service West Cork Board and staff continually strive to build awareness of our service outlining the benefits of supporting people with a disability into to employment to employers, community organisations, schools and many other forums throughout West Cork.
The company currently has 5 offices in operation supporting our clients (currently 180 clients) – Bantry, Skibbereen, Clonakilty, Bandon and Kinsale – two outreach offices one in Dunmanway and one in Castletownbere. Since 2011 over 700 people have secured employment within our service.

We work with all people who engage with us in a non-judgmental way, respecting and treating each person availing of the service equally with respect and dignity. We understand that each person who engages with the service is unique. We work with each person who engages with Employability Service West Cork in partnership, co-operation, collaboration and confidentiality. We realise and understand the barriers that people face on accessing employment. We provide a quality service to all who engage with our service, – clients, employers and other community stakeholders who work with us.
We continually strive to develop lasting relationships with all who partner with us including local businesses, other agencies, and the wider West Cork community. We play an active and leading role in West Cork on providing excellent candidates for employment positions .
We support employers as well as clients on the service. We work with employers to explain the benefits of employing our clients. We explain and discuss supports that may be available to employ our candidates.
We endeavour to provide a quality Supported Employment program to all who partner with us through out West Cork.
